The backyard redesign was created to enhance the family’s daily views from their kitchen and living areas, while fully addressing their needs for both entertaining and everyday family use.
Particular emphasis was placed on maintaining an open, free-flowing layout that seamlessly connects the various outdoor zones.
The open configuration of the pool house and alfresco area provided an ideal opportunity to incorporate feature cladding stone with integrated downlights. The L-shaped seating was thoughtfully designed with access from both sides, allowing occupants to face either the basketball court or the firepit, which is complemented by herringbone batten paving.
To prevent an excessive amount of hard surfacing, steppers with ground cover planting were used to soften the transition between the decking and alfresco, as well as the use of mondo grass between the basketball court and alfresco.
Vertical wire was also installed on the timber screen in the pool area and alfresco pergola posts to support the growth of Virginia creeper. As the central feature tree, a Ginkgo biloba was selected for its deciduous habit, which allows valuable winter sunlight to reach the space.
